It’s players like Pedroia who will keep the game from ever getting stale. Sure, players are getting bigger and stronger all the time, and maybe today there wouldn’t be a place for little Freddie Patek. But there will always be someone to come along and surprise us. If I’d told you five years ago that in 2008 we’d have a second baseman, all of 5½ feet tall, knocking down fences and striking out less often than he walks, what would you have said?
