John Gruber points out that Flickr preserves the ability of its users to access all of the data they’ve added to the website. Another reason that Flickr (and not say Facebook) is the best photo sharing website. Tumblr also makes it easy for users to download and backup their blogs. I can’t imagine investing serious time and energy into a website that didn’t.
I “backup” my Twitter feed via RSS and that’s much more of a hack than a first class experience like the one that Tumblr provides.
