War on War

Jim Ray quotes Alexander Cockburn who thinks that Obama can “win the war on FOX News” :

Obama’s White House probably cares about the New York Times and the Washington Post but not much else. The Wall Street Journal has loathed Obama from the getgo. The Fox Network is really the only enemy with mass appeal and it’s not political rocket science to go after it. Tone matters here. The barbs should not be whiny, but caustic and good humored, to the effect that this is not a news medium but the propaganda wing of the Republican Party.

A war on Fox News is just slightly more well-defined than a war on terror, but still no more winnable. What would victory look like? Bill O’Reilly crying on air? News Corp. folding the news division into the 24 hour reality TV channel? I don’t think it’s undignified for the president and staff to call them on their bullshit, but that doesn’t make it right to cast this thing as another war.
