On the other hand, I just learned how to use the college’s 25 node XGrid cluster of 8 core Mac Pros. So there’s that to tide me over.

Elinor Ostrom →
on Planet Money podcast.
It’s a good interview that gives a taste of Ostrom’s sense of humor and the persnicketiness that her research requires.
But the best part (by far) is when her husband Vincent interrupts her conversation and phone call with the Planet Money folks so that she can catch a glimpse of a deer in their yard. Unintentional comedy is art my friends.
Centro Cafe (5/5) on Yelp →
Delicious. Reeks of garlic but in a good way. Very small, probably not good for groups over 4. The tiny little kitchen is the first thing that you see when you walk in. Simple but hip decor….

Twitter Lists
Let me say first that I don’t think that there is any right way to use Twitter. These are just a few thoughts after having been lucky enough to be in the first group of the Twitter Lists feature rollout.
My initial inclination was to create a couple of lists for people that I don’t follow, but every once and a while I might want to skim their tweets and see what they are doing ...

War on War
Jim Ray quotes Alexander Cockburn who thinks that Obama can “win the war on FOX News” :
Obama’s White House probably cares about the New York Times and the Washington Post but not much else. The Wall Street Journal has loathed Obama from the getgo. The Fox Network is really the only enemy with mass appeal and it’s not political rocket science to go after it. Tone matters here....

If game theory was a method for analyzing human interaction from the perspective of the mathematically inclined recluse, Pandora sounds like they are recommending music to people separated in a world of cubicles. Who wants to listen like that?

Bon Iver – Milwaukee 10/11/2009
It’s an old trick but a good one. Craft an album of intimate heart-felt sadness and turn it into anthemic rock for live performances. Still, few performers can pull it off convincingly. Over the two years since Justin Vernon came out of the Wisconsin woods as Bon Iver, he’s mastered his own material and forged a sound capable of sustaining the original intimacy of For Emma, Forever Ago...

I’ve detached my Twitter feed from tumblr. I think it will work better this way. My apologies to my two readers for not doing this sooner.
The Tigers deserve to lose because they refused to use their best relief pitchers. Notice the Twins didn’t make that same mistake.

Alternative Quips aimed at @kohenari
Here is a smattering of alternative Quips that I thought would make good @replies to @kohenari
@kohenari other good things fucked up by the 90s: Star Wars, the Celtics, and Apple Computer (but saved in the 00’s).
@kohenari you’re so wrong because New Adventures in Hi-Fi is the best REM album.

A guy with a neck tattoo just got a big strikeout. Thousands of people cheered. God, I love America.
Why does Joe Mauer get Batman “POW!” graphics with music that sounds like it belongs in a James Bond movie? Odd combo.
